Hello there!

My name is Ian Gu, and I am currently a junior at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA. I am passionate about STEM and sustainability, and I plan to major in environmental science in college.

My experience the past summer at the Tidelines Institute in Alaska reshaped my perspective on the environment. Initially, I did not think much about environmental issues, but as I listened to lectures on the climate crisis and climate injustice by truly passionate leaders, I came to discover that much of what I thought I knew about climate change was false. I was particularly angered to learn that while we have the technology for stable renewable energy, gas companies push the myth that they are unreliable. This injustice has inspired me to take action and conduct scientific research aimed at environmental solutions.

Working with a research mentor has further fueled my passion for environmental science. My mentor is an expert in the Earth & Planetary Sciences, and he has been an invaluable resource in navigating my projects. Although I am currently doing a project related to astronomy, I hope to find connections to environmental science and tie future projects to this field.

I hope to contribute to a more sustainable future through my scientific efforts and commitment to educating others. Through this blog, I wish to share my experiences and innovative ideas that have shaped my understanding of environmental science.
